As I started to grow so did my fur! Unknown to my humans, us cocker spaniels can get quite furry when we hit the teenage years!
I do think with a few curls I became very cute and when I looked with those big spaniel eyes I could always win my humans over. Add a bit of snow and the cuteness just got more.
But before I could really start to use those spaniel eyes to get what I wanted, I had to let my fur grow … and grow … and grow ! No-one could believe that under all my fur there was a cocker spaniel.
However this hippy look was not forever and I was taken to the groomer for a trim. Unfortunately before my true handsome self was revealed I did need to go through the embarrassing ‘half done look’.
Being black my coat was very temperamental and it did take a lot of hard work. Once I reached about 9 months, my puppy fur was ready to be hand stripped to reveal my nice shiny adult fur. I am a breed that requires lots of grooming but its worth it! My personal groomer, Iris, did a fantastic job and made me into the handsome boy I am today.

I am so glad that my human chose to persevere and not shave my coat as some spaniels I have seen. Not only does my coat offer me protection against the sun, it also keeps me nice and warm during the German winters.
I looked so handsome, until I stopped going to the professional groomer and my human thought she could do better ….
