Two and a half hours drive from Berlin and I was in a small town called Stadt Wehlen. When we parked next to the River Elbe my initial reaction was ‘swimming weekend – whoop whoop!’, but how wrong was I! Not only have I been banned from swimming (vets orders) I was about to be challenged in ways I never thought possible. One that was to test me and my trust in my humans …
What can I say! We arrived at our new home for the next 4 nights to be greeted by our hosts – they certainly know how to treat us furballs. Not only do we get our own food and drink bowl, but there is also a towel and a welcome treat bag! For those of you lucky enough to swim, there is also a small meadow with access to the River Elbe – great chance to cool down after all those hikes.
The first thing my humans did after we settled in was grab a beer. No problem! I just found a perfect place to chill out, whilst they planned the days ahead.
Eventually we did manage to leave the Pension and do a little exploring. So far so good – no shortage of grass to roll around in whilst looking at spectular views. In hindsight I should of taken more notice of those hills!
The first day I was full of energy despite the crazy 26 degree forecast, but there was no way I was being left behind! We wandered towards Stadt Wehlen center and then started to gently climb. In the shade of the woods and canyons it was a lovely walking temperature. After a ‘small’ diversion to Heringshöhle we continued towards Steinerner Tisch and Bastei to take a look at the famous bridge.
The Bastei was super busy, so my humans didn’t hang around and quickly found the path down. We would get an amazing view another day instead!
Looking back, the 800 steps down were a breeze compared to what was about to come! I even said hi to a very hübsch black cocker spaniel. Such a shame we didn’t have time to chat.
We have certainly found a most beautiful part of Germany!

Day one was complete and I went to bed very happy and tired and then day 2 started….
